🧪 “Chemistry Can Be Fun!” – Experimenting, Discovering and Developing a Passion for Science

Since December 2025, students from Years 2, 3 and 4 at I Liceum Ogólnokształcące im. Leona Kruczkowskiego w Tychach have been taking part in the “Chemistry Can Be Fun” and “Meetings with Fascinating Chemistry” sessions, organised as part of the project “Improving the Quality of the Educational Offer at I Liceum Ogólnokształcące im. Leona Kruczkowskiego w Tychach.”
The sessions include both support classes, which help students consolidate and supplement the knowledge gained during regular lessons, and activities aimed at developing key scientific competencies, giving students the opportunity to explore their interests and discover practical applications of chemistry.
During the sessions, students have had the opportunity to make their own perfumes, learn about forensic science, explore radioactivity, and analyse the ingredients of cosmetics and food products. They have also learned new laboratory techniques and the principles of safe and proper laboratory work. There have even been experiments inspired by popular content found online.
Students have learned to assess for themselves which experiments are safe and scientifically sound and which may simply be impressive-looking internet tricks. In doing so, they have developed their critical thinking skills, learned to distinguish science from pseudoscience, form their own opinions and justify their views.
The sessions are also an excellent opportunity to revise and consolidate knowledge, fill in any gaps and prepare for the Matura examination. At the same time, students learn to connect chemistry with other areas of science, develop their ability to solve problems independently, analyse results and draw conclusions.
Experimental work also helps students build confidence, make independent decisions and share their own observations more openly. And all of this takes place in an atmosphere of curiosity, experimentation and, of course, fun.
Because chemistry really can be fun – and our students have definitely found their chemistry with chemistry! 🧪🔬
